However, it offers similar facilities to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), except in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Voting rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Holding public office<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acquiring agricultural land<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Government employment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udcdc Changes Made by Government in 2021<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As per the <strong>March 2021 notification<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OCI card holders must take <strong>prior permission<\/strong> from the Government of India for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Journalism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mountaineering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tabligh\/missionary activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internships\/employment in <strong>foreign diplomatic missions in India<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OCI holders are also required to <strong>inform FRRO<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On change of <strong>residential address<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On change in <strong>occupation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udc64 Who is Eligible for an OCI Card?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the following <strong>foreign nationals<\/strong> are eligible:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A. Any person of full age and capacity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Who is a <strong>citizen of another country<\/strong> but <strong>was a citizen of India<\/strong> at or after 26 January 1950.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who was <strong>eligible to become a citizen<\/strong> of India on 26 January 1950.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who is a <strong>citizen of another country<\/strong> but belonged to a territory that became part of India after <strong>15 August 1947<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who is a <strong>child, grandchild, or great-grandchild<\/strong> of such a citizen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>B. A minor child<\/strong> of a person mentioned above.<br>**C. A minor child with <strong>one or both parents<\/strong> being Indian citizens.<br>**D. A foreign <strong>spouse<\/strong> of an Indian citizen or OCI card holder, with a <strong>registered marriage subsisting for at least 2 years<\/strong> prior to applying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2757 <strong>Not eligible:<\/strong> If the applicant or any of their parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents has ever been a <strong>citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh<\/strong>, or any other country notified by the Government of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83e\uddfe How to Apply for an OCI Card?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can apply online at:<br>\ud83d\udd17 <a href=\"https:\/\/ociservices.gov.in\/\">https:\/\/ociservices.gov.in<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Documents required:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete and signed <strong>application form<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of <strong>current citizenship<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Documents proving <strong>Indian origin<\/strong> (for applicant\/parents\/grandparents\/great-grandparents)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Relationship proof (child, grandchild, spouse, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Registered <strong>marriage certificate<\/strong> (for foreign spouses)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Passport-size photographs<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thumb impression and signature<\/strong> of the applicant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udeab What OCI Card Holders Cannot Do<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OCI holders do <strong>not<\/strong> have the following rights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u274c Voting rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u274c Membership of <strong>Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, or Parliament<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u274c Holding and Indian <strong>constitutional positions<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u274c Ownership of <strong>agricultural or plantation properties<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u274c Government jobs (normally not allowed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u274c Undertaking <strong>missionary work, journalism, or mountaineering<\/strong> without prior permission<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u274c Free movement in <strong>Protected\/Restricted Areas<\/strong> without a valid permit (same as any foreigner)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u26a0\ufe0f When Can an OCI Card Be Rejected or Revoked?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under <strong>Section 7D<\/strong> of the Citizenship Act, 1955, the OCI card may be <strong>cancelled or revoked<\/strong> if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The registration was obtained by <strong>fraud, false representation, or concealment<\/strong> of material facts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The card holder is sentenced to <strong>imprisonment for 2 years or more<\/strong> within 5 years of OCI registration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The individual has <strong>communicated with an enemy country<\/strong> or acted against India\u2019s national interest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Government of India <strong>deems it necessary<\/strong> to revoke based on other violations or circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2696\ufe0f For specific legal implications, <strong>consult a legal expert<\/strong> at NRI LEGAL WORLD or immigration consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83e\udded Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OCI card is a powerful and flexible option for foreign nationals of Indian origin who wish to stay connected with their roots.
